James H. Sinclair. Co-Founder and CEO. Recognized in the industry for his cross-asset
expertise, James leads strategic direction at MarketFactory. James was previously Head of
Research and Strategy for ICAP Electronic Broking where he was involved with strategy and
corporate development for the foreign exchange and fixed income markets. Before the
$847 million EBS acquisition by ICAP, James held a number of executive positions at EBS. As part of
its inception in 1991, he served as Head of Asia/Pacific where he launched the business in the region and
implemented its merger with MINEX. He was later Head of Sales for the Americas,
Global Head of Product Management then Head of Research and Strategy. Prior to EBS, James was a
Vice President at Citibank and a consultant at a financial services consultancy. He earned his BSc.
Engineering Honors and ACGI from the University of London, Imperial College.
Darren M. Jer. Co-Founder and COO. Darren manages marketing, sales and operations for MarketFactory,
a software engineering firm that makes markets simple. Prior to MarketFactory, he was Head of New Business
Sales in the Americas for ICAP Electronic Broking where he established their algorithmic trading and market
data business for buy side clients. Before ICAP / EBS, Darren was a sales executive in IBM's Banking, Finance
and Securities practice, responsible for key Wall Street accounts. Darren began his career in financial
technology as a consultant for Price Waterhouse and various internet startups, including his own digital media
firm. He is a graduate of Duke University, lives in Manhattan, and is a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
Edward R. Howorka. Co-Founder and CTO. Ed's dual passions for technology architecture and trading microstructure
leads him to manage both at MarketFactory. The original architect of the EBS system and later its CTO, Ed created a unique distributed
matching architecture assuring high performance and reliability across a global market spanning 40 countries. Ed was later
appointed Chief Business Risk Officer in which capacity he oversaw market controls, business integrity and market microstructure.
A pioneer in the computer industry, Ed founded a software company in 1984 to develop tools for artificial intelligence, compilers
and interpreters for PCs. Widely published in the field of mathematics and economics, Ed was Professor of Computer Science and Applied
Mathematics at the University of Virginia and received his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Florida.
MarketFactory developers come from a variety of backgrounds and experience, including trading services such as Reuters,
EBS, NYFIX Millennium, Cantor Fitzgerald/eSpeed, Trading Screen, Gain Capital and financial institutions such as Deutsche Bank
and Merrill Lynch. Non-financial backgrounds include Internet companies and General Electric. The MarketFactory development
methodology employs Agile Development, comprehensive planning, thorough documentation standards and mature software and quality
assurance practices.
